If you don't believe in ghosts, I feel really really really bad for you.
"Uh... but... where's the science for it???"
Shut up, science can't even confirm that gravity is more than a theory.
Skepticism is a natural reaction for people who are fearful.
As we all know, fear leads to ignorance...ย
but I'm not here to preach about being more open-minded in the year 2022.
What I am here to talk about is why I don't find ghosts scary.
What would you do if you were to wake up exactly where you left off... but outside of your body?
Only your spirit remains... what is your initial reaction?
"Ah damn, that's kinda lame"
That would probably be mine.
Now, would my next actions be to haunt everyone around me and be a bitter mess?
Well, ya, maybe I would mess around and unlace someone's shoes (depending on my abilities).
Overall, though, it would take a real jerk to make me want to actually haunt them.
Like someone who sets up a bunch of cameras around their house for the sole purpose of catching you.
Then, naturally, I would want to kill them because they're getting in the way of me afterliving by best afterlife.
It just goes against all common decency.
So, if I believe that ghosts are near, I simply choose not to get in their way.
I genuinely think I can befriend a ghost, as long as I'm respectful of their boundaries.
Horror movies are just anti-ghost propaganda trying to make us fearful of them.
But if you're a ghost, you can't haunt those filmmakers, because it just gives them more material.
It's a real turn the other cheek scenario, but nobody actually gets to see you turn your cheek.
So, as a human who is alive and smart enough to see that ghosts can be chill,
I am making it my mission to change everyone's preconceived notions on ghosts.
From what I can tell, they have no other active ambassadors, which is pretty sad.
When my soul eventually says "peace out" to my body,
I want to be able to have the assurance that I live in a world that is respectful of ghosts
...and all the ghost friends that I will make.
I want the future generations to appreciate that harmony too.
If we start to do right by ghosts, then maybe they'll do right by us.
For example, let's say you're binge-watching Too Hot To Handle on Netflix
and Netflix says "are you still there", and you are still in fact there,
but the remote is too far away to confirm to Netflix that you are still in fact there,
and you're just in a really comfortable position, so it's a real hassle to get up just to tell Netflix you're still in fact there,
wouldn't it be nice if your ghost pal who is watching with you could reach over and hand the remote to you?
Then you both get to find out how much cash the horny deviants on the show lost just because they're incapable of functioning rationally.
That's the relationship I want to be able to have with ghosts.
Maybe one day...
Maybe in another afterlife...
